Week 3: Robots and Art

With major innovations like Adobe Illustrator, blender, photoshop, AI, and 3D printing art has been transformable and has taken many different worlds and imaginative concepts come to life in an immersive way. The incorporation of electric systems and motors has allowed for a new format to take place within the creative space. However, due to the ability to create things in such a uniform manner, the idea of tech taking over traditional forms of art with canvas and sculpting has created major discourse in terms of what is original and what is not.

In Walter Benjamin's essay, he voiced various concerns one being the major talking point currently within the art space. He states that he is concerned about the ability to reproduce the art and how much this new tech makes it easier to do so. (Benjamin, 1936). The discourse is still evident in the present day and only becomes more pressing by the minute with the new integration of art AI being able to create any form of images whether realistic, abstract, or cartoonish designs that essentially are made up of different content artificial intelligence can grab from what is on the internet. The major part of it is that the more one uses it the more precise it gets with its designs as it learns new patterns and information with each use. (Rector, 2023).

The blurred lines much like those described by Douglas Davis have also has brought into question what one may be learning can either be foundational or is it just a copy? Of an image. (Davis, 1995). The image below shows an image of how to learn to use blender yet alongside this image shows how to make it displays students with the same or similar image. The line blurs often as described by Davis.

All in all,  what is original is harder and harder to identify by the day. Art now means something needs to follow the creative process of the artist and their story. It is much more personable than it ever has been. Art before could be appreciated with separating the artist, but nowadays it is crucial to be able to see it as legitimate.
